Frequently Asked Questions

What is a BD? Is it a Blu-ray? and if so why isn’t it called a BR?
The industry abbreviation for a Blu-ray disc is “BD” rather than “BR” (for “Blu Ray”). Blu-ray is one word, and BD stands for “Blu-ray disc”. We agree that “BR” might have been a better choice, but the entire industry uses “BD” and we’ve got used to it now.

Will you be releasing all of your back catalogue on Blu-ray?
No. Many of our titles are small, niche films which sell modest amounts. The DVD format will remain the best market for many of these titles over the next decade or so. We will be handpicking big sellers (METROPOLIS, SUNRISE, etc) for the Blu-ray format as and when we are satisfied with the HD masters. It costs much more to prepare a film for Blu-ray than it does for DVD and we often have to make harsh decisions about whether or not to pursue a particular film on Blu-ray. It goes without saying we’d like to have immaculate HD masters for all our films and everything out on Blu-ray but in the real world, that’s just not going to happen.

I bought one of your titles and it didn’t contain a booklet. What do I do?
Please return it to where you bought it and explain the situation. Every shop in the UK has to replace a defective item by law.

I am in America and your DVD displays strangely on my equipment. What’s going on?
Many (but not all) of our DVDs are in the PAL format and are designed to be played on European PAL equipment. A number of cheap multiregion players sold in Asia and the USA cannot properly playback certain discs. Try playing it on a number of different devices for better results.

Will you be releasing such and such?
We only announce our future titles two months before release. The latest information can be viewed at this website. Occasionally we use Twitter to announce new titles, but they’ll appear here a day later. Our production slate is usually full for the next 12 months, but if you have any suggestions please email us.

Can I come and work for you?
I’m afraid we are not looking to employ anyone at the current time.

Can I intern for free then?
We’re afraid the MoC Production team all work from home and we don’t require anyone coming round to our houses. Sorry!

How can anyone get into the business then?
Perhaps try to hone useful skills which could make you invaluable. If you stand out from the crowd and impress someone enough they will want to employ you. There are hundreds of very qualified people out there who are very good at what they do. If you are really good, please contact us first!
