The Cockleshell Heroes is the true WWII story of one of the most daring raids in British military history. A team of Royal Marines are sent on a perilous mission to infiltrate and destroy an impregnable harbour in German-occupied France.

Director Elia Kazan‘s first film, A Tree Grows in Brooklyn shows that the filmmaker’s great empathy for his characters was already quite evident at this early juncture, and this endures as one of the most moving Hollywood dramas of the 1940s.

Perhaps the most compelling picture ever made about the shattering aftermath of the Vietnam War. Coming Home earned eight Academy Award nominations and won three for Best Actress (Jane Fonda), Actor (Jon Voight), and Original Screenplay.

After directing a celebrated New York stage production of Ed Graczyk’s Come Back to the 5 & Dime, Jimmy Dean, Jimmy Dean, legendary filmmaker Robert Altman, gave the play the full cinematic treatment. Actresses Sandy Dennis, Cher, Karen Black, and Kathy Bates all reprised their stage roles, and the results are a magical convergence of theatre and film.
