One of the best and most influential Westerns ever made, THE GREAT SILENCE, joins the Masters of Cinema Series as Eureka announce their November 2021 line-up
Eureka! has completed its November 2021 line-up today, and revealed an additional title for its October schedule. Featured amongst these announcements is one of the best and most influential Westerns ever made; a bittersweet and black humour filled coming-of-age drama, that would make Ken Loach proud; plus, a re-issue of the Mothra.
Featuring superb photography and a haunting score from maestro Ennio Morricone, director Sergio Corbucci’s bleak, brilliant and violent vision of an immoral, honour-less West, is widely considered to be among the best and most influential Westerns ever made. The Masters of Cinema Series is proud to present Sergio Corbucci’s masterpiece, The Great Silence, on Blu-ray for the first time in the UK from a 4K restoration. The Limited-Edition Set (3000 copies ONLY) will feature a Slipcase, Reversible Poster, and Set of Lobby Cards and will be released on the 22 November 2021.
From director Piotr Domalewski (winner of numerous festival awards for his short films, as well as his 2017 feature debut, Silent Night [Cicha Noc]), I Never Cryis a touching comedy about a rebellious teenage girl with a grudge against her father, who was only ever present in her life through regular money transfers. It is also a piercing, realistic look at the difficulties faced by families separated by emigration, told against the backdrop of the life of Polish workers abroad. I Never Cry will be released on Blu-ray as a part of the Montage Pictures range from 11 October 2021. The first print run will feature a Limited-Edition Collector’s Booklet.
One of the most iconic Japanese kaiju, Mothra has appeared in over a dozen feature films. Presented here is her debut, a gloriously vibrant piece of filmmaking that forever changed how kaiju eiga would be produced in Japan. Psychedelically colourful, with an intelligent, benevolent protector as its lead kaiju, Mothra was radically different to every other monster movie that had come before it, and it remains a classic of the genre to this day. Ishirō Honda’s Mothra will be re-issued on Blu-ray from 15 November 2021 as part of The Masters of Cinema Series
Although his name may not be as instantly recognisable as some of his contemporaries, Joseph Kuo was an incredibly successful filmmaker who consistently produced crowd-pleasing spectacles always in line with what audiences at the time wanted to see. Often handling writing, directing, and producing duties, the success of this multi-hyphenate filmmaker is even more remarkable considering that the majority of his films were produced independently, at a time when the kung-fu genre was dominated by the big Hong Kong studios. Cinematic Vengeance! collects eight of these independent productions, all fully restored and making their worldwide debuts on Blu-ray. Released on 15 November 2021 in a Limited Edition 4-Disc set [2000 copies only] featuring a 60-page Collector’s Booklet and Facsimile Lobby Cards. [Cinematic Vengeance! Was revealed as part of last month’s announcements]
Also revealed, was a brand new acquisition, Midnight. Eureka have acquired all UK & Irish rights for the debut film from Korean director Kwon Oh-seung. A dazzling reworking of a classic suspense film trope, as a young deaf woman and her mother find themselves targeted by a devious and implacable serial killer. The fast, furious and utterly fiendish Midnight will be screened at GRIMMFEST and other UK festivals before the end of the year, ahead of a Digital and Blu-ray release as part of the Montage Pictures range in 2022.
