Eureka! announces its February 2026 line-up, showcasing landmark samurai epic and acclaimed Holocaust drama

Eureka! has unveiled its February slate for The Masters of Cinema Series, bringing together two extraordinary cinematic achievements: a monumental five-film samurai saga from Toei and one of the most powerful Holocaust dramas ever produced.

Zen & Sword: The Miyamoto Musashi Saga at Toei | Available 23 February 2026 | Limited to 2,000 copies

A swordsman, writer, and artist who lived from 1584 to 1645, Miyamoto Musashi remains one of Japan’s most enduring cultural icons. His life has inspired filmmakers since the silent era, with dozens of adaptations capturing his near-mythic legacy.

In the early 1960s, Toei embarked on its most ambitious Musashi project yet: a five-part epic adapted from the works of Eiji Yoshikawa and completed between 1961 and 1965 under director Tomu Uchida. Starring Japanese screen legends Kinnosuke Nakamura and Ken Takakura, these films stand among the most accomplished samurai works of their era — deserving of recognition alongside the beloved Zatoichi series.

Eureka!’s Masters of Cinema Series is honoured to present all five films on Blu-ray from new 4K restorations by Toei.  This strictly limited edition of 2,000 copies is housed in a hardbound slipcase and includes a 100-page collector’s book.

Jakob the Liar | Available 16 February 2026 | Limited to 2,000 copies

Also arriving in February is a landmark of East German cinema: Jakob the Liar, directed by Frank Beyer (Trace of Stones) for DEFA and adapted from the novel by Jewish author Jurek Becker.

Starring acclaimed Czech actor Vlastimil Brodsky (Tomorrow I’ll Wake Up and Scald Myself with Tea), the film follows the lives of a Jewish community in German-occupied Poland. Deeply humane, poignant, and resonant, Jakob the Liar was the only East German film ever nominated for an Academy Award. Its influence extended well beyond its era, helping shape a wave of major Holocaust films in 1990s Hollywood — including Peter Kassovitz’s later adaptation starring Robin Williams.

The Masters of Cinema Series is proud to present this essential film from a 4K restoration by the DEFA Foundation. This limited edition of 2,000 copies comes in an O-card slipcase and includes a collector’s booklet.

Both releases reaffirm Eureka!’s commitment to preserving and celebrating world cinema at the highest standard — offering audiences the opportunity to experience these cultural landmarks in definitive editions.
