Eureka’s electrifying July 2025 release slate has been unveiled, packed with cinematic treasures set to captivate fans of every genre. Highlights include a cult gem from the visionary behind Bruce Lee’s The Big Boss and Fist of Fury, a trailblazing East German Western helmed by Josef Mach, and two stunning 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray upgrades of beloved titles from the acclaimed Masters of Cinema Series.
High Noon (4K Ultra-HD Blu-ray) — Available 28 July
One of Hollywood’s most searing political westerns, Fred Zinnemann’s High Noon (1952) returns with a 4K Ultra-HD upgrade as part of Eureka’s Masters of Cinema series. Produced by Stanley Kramer and immortalised by Gary Cooper’s stoic marshal fending off lawlessness at high noon, the film’s allegory against McCarthyism provoked John Wayne’s scorn and Howard Hawks’s rival Rio Bravo—but its tension and moral urgency remain undiminished more than 70 years on. First issued on Blu-ray in 2019, this UK debut 4K edition arrives on 28 July in a limited edition of 2,000 copies.
The Old Dark House (4K Ultra-HD Blu-ray) — Available 28 July
James Whale’s The Old Dark House (1932), a touchstone of gothic horror and black comedy, makes its 4K Ultra-HD UK debut as part of Eureka’s Masters of Cinema series. Featuring star turns by Boris Karloff, Melvyn Douglas, Gloria Stuart and Charles Laughton, the film led the pack of “old dark house” thrillers that began in the silent era. Thought lost for decades, this atmospheric chiller—where a band of travellers seek shelter only to encounter a murderous recluse—returns in an upgraded format on 28 July, limited to 2,000 copies featuring an O-card slipcase and Collector’s booklet.
The Sons of Great Bear (Blu-ray) — Available 21 July
In 1966, East Germany’s DEFA studio reimagined the sprawl of the American frontier through a socialist lens. The Sons of Great Bear pits Native American heroes against brutal white settlers, repudiating Hollywood mythology while igniting the “Red Western” boom. Gojko Mitić’s breakthrough performance launched a franchise of DEFA Indianerfilme—now celebrated in a painstaking 2K restoration by the DEFA Foundation. Eureka’s Masters of Cinema presents the UK Blu-ray premiere on 21 July, in a limited edition of 2,000 copies with O-card slipcase and Collector’s booklet.
The Tattooed Dragon (Blu-ray) — Available 21 July
Lo Wei, director of Bruce Lee’s The Big Boss and Fist of Fury, returns with Jimmy Wang Yu in The Tattooed Dragon, a seldom-seen 1973 martial arts thriller. Restored from original negatives in 2K for Eureka Classics, the film showcases Wang Yu’s ferocity against organised crime, supported by Sylvia Chang and James Tien, with stunts by Simon Hsu and cinematography by Cheung Yiu-tsou. Marking its world-exclusive Blu-ray debut, The Tattooed Dragon arrives on 21 July in a 2,000-copy limited run, each with an O-card slipcase and collector’s booklet.
Eureka!’s June 2025 release schedule not only celebrates classic cinema but also promises to offer fans an unparalleled collection of meticulously restored and thoughtfully curated editions. With such diverse and high-calibre offerings, collectors and movie enthusiasts alike have much to look forward to this summer.
