Nerve shredding tension, brawls, bandits and bordellos, wit and invention plus demonic mayhem as Eureka reveal their July 2021 line-up
Eureka! has announced its July 2021 line-up today which will feature a blistering blend of action and comedy from Sammo Hung; an intense hardboiled love story-thriller from the director of City on Fire; and a re-issue of a three-film set from one of the greats of cinema operating at the height of his powers. A Standard Edition re-issue of Viy was also revealed for May.
The Far East meets the Old West in this iconic action-packed adventure from the inimitable Sammo Hung. Hung plays a loveable rogue who teams up with an incorruptible Sheriff (Yuen Biao; Project A, Wheels On Meals) to save their home town from certain destruction. The Millionaires’ Express will be released in its UK debut as a Limited-Edition Blu-ray (3000 copies only) as part of the Eureka Classics range from 26 July 2021. The Definitive Limited 2-Disc Collector’s Edition will feature 4 versions of the film (all as brand new 2K restorations), O-Card Slipcase, Reversible Poster and Collectors Booklet.
Chow Yun-fat gives a career best performance in Wild Search, his third collaboration with director Ringo Lam (City On Fire, Full Contact). A loose reimagining of Peter Weir’s 1985 film Witness, Wild Search showcases Ringo Lam’s often underrated versatility as a director. With beautiful cinematography by Andrew Lau (Infernal Affairs) and a dreamy score by Lowell Lo, EurekaClassics is proud to present Wild Search in its UK debut on Blu-ray. Released on Blu-ray for the first time in the UK featuring a Limited-Edition O-card Slipcase & Collector’s Booklet (First Print Run of 2000 copies only). Available as a part of the Eureka Classics range from 19 July 2021.
Between 1920 and 1929, BusterKeaton created a peerless run of feature films that established him as “arguably the greatest actor-director in the history of the movies”. Collected here are three further films from that era; Our Hospitality, Go West and College. Buster Keaton: 3 Films (Volume 3) will be re-issued on Blu-ray from 19 July 2021.
Bursting with startling imagery and stunning practical effects courtesy of directors Konstantin Yershov, Georgi Kropachyov, and perhaps most notably, artistic director Aleksandr Ptushko (the legendary special effects artist whose spectacular stop-motion effects and innovative colour cinematography has seen him referred to as the Soviet equivalent of Willis O’Brien, Ray Harryhausen, and even Mario Bava), Viy has influenced generations of directors for more than half a century. The Masters of Cinema series is proud to present Viy on Blu-ray from a HD restoration of the original film elements. Viy will be re-issued on Blu-ray as a part of The Masters of Cinema Series from 24 May 2021.
In addition to confirming its home video slate, Eureka! also confirmed that I Never Cry, the second feature from one of the most awarded young Polish directors, Piotr Domalewski (Silent Night) will be released in Cinemas in the UK and Ireland on 23 July 2021. The film explores the cruelly ubiquitous loss of a parent through the eyes of a young woman, and prompts the viewer to reconsider their role in the lives of others. Inspired by films such as Manchester By The Sea and Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri, and set-in modern-day Poland and Ireland, I Never Cry is a piercing, realistic look at the difficulties faced by families separated by emigration, told against the backdrop of the life of Polish workers abroad. I Never Cry will feature on home video as part of the Montage Pictures range later in the year.
