Film fans are in for a cinematic feast this autumn as Eureka! announces a spectacular September line-up, headlined by a gripping Hong Kong thriller, five landmark works from postwar Germany’s DEFA studio, and a collection of exciting martial arts films.
Wrack and Ruin: The Rubble Film at DEFA
A major highlight of the line-up is a historic UK Blu-ray debut of five defining films from DEFA, the first film studio established in postwar Germany. These haunting works, often referred to as Trümmerfilme or “rubble films,” explore the scars—both physical and psychological—left by Nazism and war.
The set includes:
This Masters of Cinema Limited Edition (2,000 copies) will be available in the UK from 15 September 2025, featuring a hardbound slipcase and an extensive collector’s book.
Flaming Brothers: Chow Yun-fat Heats Up the Screen
Adding a shot of adrenaline to the lineup is Flaming Brothers (1987), a blood-soaked Hong Kong crime saga starring the legendary Chow Yun-fat and Alan Tang. Released during the golden era of heroic bloodshed films, Flaming Brothers combines explosive action with emotional gravitas, thanks to a screenplay penned by a young Wong Kar-wai.
Eureka Classics brings the film to Blu-ray for the first time in the UK (15 September) and North America (16 September), newly restored in 2K. Each edition (limited to 2,000 copies per territory) comes with an exclusive O-card slipcase and collector’s booklet.
Furious Swords and Fantastic Warriors: The Heroic Cinema of Chang Cheh
No Eureka! announcement would be complete without a deep dive into martial arts—and this month we deliver in style. Ten films from the legendary Chang Cheh, the so-called “Godfather of Hong Kong Cinema,” will be released in a career-spanning box set.
Highlights include:
This epic collection, all from Chang’s prolific tenure at Shaw Brothers Studio, will be released on 22 September (UK) and 23 September (North America), limited to 2,000 copies per region. Each set includes a slipcase and a collector’s booklet.
From the war-torn streets of Berlin to the neon-drenched back alleys of Hong Kong, and into the mythic world of martial arts heroes, these releases offer film lovers on both sides of the Atlantic an unforgettable season of discovery.
