The Masters of Cinema Series welcomes more work from Elia Kazan, Hal Ashby and Robert Altman in Eureka’s July 2019 line up

 

Eureka’s July 2019 release schedule has been confirmed and is set to feature a true story of one of the most daring raids in British military history; Elia Kazan’s heartfelt and sentimental first feature; Hal Ashby’s compelling and emotional tale of love and loss starring Jane Fonda, Jon Voight & Bruce Dern; and a Robert Altman comedy starring Sandy Dennis, Cher and Karen Black.

Director Elia Kazan‘s first film, A Tree Grows in Brooklyn shows that the filmmaker’s great empathy for his characters was already quite evident at this early juncture, and this endures as one of the most moving Hollywood dramas of the 1940s. Based on Betty Smith‘s novel – a bestseller in the U.S. but also one of the most popular books among American soldiers overseas in WWII – Kazan’s debut is a sensitive, masterful adaptation.Winning Academy Awards for actors James Dunn (as Johnny) and Peggy Ann Garner (as Francie), and featuring splendid work by Dorothy McGuire and Joan BlondellA Tree Grows in Brooklyn is a heartfelt testament to the strength of family, and offers an early indication of Kazan’s unrivalled proficiency with actors, and will be released on Blu-ray from a 2K restoration on 22 July 2019.

A team of Royal Marines are sent on a perilous mission to infiltrate and destroy an impregnable harbour in German-occupied France.  Starring José Ferrer, Trevor Howard and Christopher Lee, Eureka Classic’s is proud to present The Cockleshell Heroes in its worldwide debut on Blu-ray, available from 15 July 2019.

After directing a celebrated New York stage production of Ed Graczyk’s Come Back to the 5 & Dime, Jimmy Dean, Jimmy Dean, legendary filmmaker Robert Altman (Nashville, That Cold Day in the Park) gave the play the full cinematic treatment.
