Philippe De Broca’s KING OF HEARTS in cinemas (UK & Ireland) from 8 June 2018

The cult comic masterpiece from acclaimed director Philippe de Broca, King of Hearts was a flop upon initial release in France, but was a smash hit in the US, where it ended up running for five years straight.  Now for the very first time in the UK in celebration of its 50th Anniversary, a 4K restoration of the anti-war cult classic that defined a generation is coming to UK cinemas.

During World War I, Scottish soldier Private Plumpick (Alan Bates; Women in Love, The Fixer) is sent on a mission to a village in the French countryside to disarm a bomb set by the retreating German army. Plumpick encounters a strange town occupied by the former residents of the local psychiatric hospital who escaped after the villagers deserted. Assuming roles like Bishop, Duke, barber, and circus ringmaster, they warmly accept the visitor as their ‘King of Hearts’. With his reconnaissance and bomb-defusing mission looming, Plumpick starts to prefer the acceptance of the insane locals over the insanity of the war raging outside.

Since its debut, King of Hearts has become a worldwide cult favourite and stands out as one of de Broca’s most memorable films. Released in selected cinemas in the UK & Ireland on 8 June 2018, ahead of a home video release on 15 July 2018.
